Breast Augmentation: The Surgery
A breast augmentation surgery begins with a surgical incision which is made either in the breast crease, under the arm (axilla), or along the edge of the areola. The precise technique that is used will vary according to body type and the details of each procedure. Next, a space or "pocket" is made either behind breast tissue or underneath the chest wall (pectoralis) muscle. Once this pocket is created, the breast implants are inserted. If saline implants are used, they are inserted empty and then injected with an appropriate amount of sterile salt-water (saline.) Silicone implants are inserted "pre-filled" to a set implant volume.
