Breast Augmentation: The Surgeon

Choosing a surgeon is an important decision.

Make sure your doctor is an M.D., (if he was born in America, that he is a graduate of a United States Medical School.) Next, make sure that they are board certified specifically by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This is the only plastic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Additional training, specifically in Aesthetic Surgery (an aesthetic surgery fellowship) is a good sign that your surgeon has a focus in cosmetic surgery. It is very important that your surgeon performs this type of surgery on a regular basis. Ask how many breast augmentations they perform each year. Look over before and after photo's, beware of any surgeon that cannot show you at least twenty good results for any particular procedure. Ask for references from patients who have had the same procedure you are considering. Not only will they be able to tell you about the procedure from a patient's perspective, but they may give you tips and pointers about the recovery phase.

Finally, take your time to do the research. Breast augmentation is a safe and ever-more popular procedure. It is important that you are doing it for the right reasons - to feel better about yourself.
