Breast Augmentation: After the Operation

Once the implants are in place, at the conclusion of the operation, I inject a long-acting local anesthetic into the breast tissues to minimize post-operative discomfort. Patients typically wake up with very little pain for several hours after the procedure. The procedure itself lasts about sixty minutes. I perform all breast procedures under general anesthetic so that my patients experience no pain whatsoever during the surgery.

Patients typically experience some swelling and tightness in the breast area for a few days after surgery. You can expect to return to work within 3 or 4 days of the surgery. Patients are advised to wear bras without an underwire for 2-3 months. Patients return to their normal activities including light exercise and sex within 1 week; and more vigorous exercise at 3-4 weeks.
